The efficient hardware resource management is an ever-increasing requirement for both server and embedded systems as new computer architectures, such as multi/many-core processors, accelerators, and 100+Gbps interconnects, are emerging. Operating systems and middleware are the main system software that manages processors, memory, and I/O resources in an efficient manner with respect to high-throughput and real-time. The main research topic of System Software Laboratory (SSLab) at Konkuk University is on the optimization of operating systems and middleware for high-end computing and embedded computing on next-generation architectures. Specifically, our research interests include:

  • High-End Computing
    • Operating systems and middleware for many-core processors
    • Containers and virtualization
    • Parallel programming models and high-speed interconnects
  • Real-Time Embedded Computing
    • Real-time operating systems and middleware
    • Software platforms for ground and aerial vehicles
    • Embedded networks

Several exciting research projects are being carried out in the laboratory. Current projects include (i) Scalable operating systems and middleware for many-core systems, (ii) Resource virtualization and provisioning for container-based cloud systems, and (iii) Scheduling and networking for partitioned real-time systems. Researches in our laboratory are supported by funding from Korean government and industries.

We look for graduate students who are self-motivated and have a good background in operating systems. If you are interested in graduate training in system software, please do not hesitate to contact us. [Information for the laboratory applicant]
